The Fergus Falls Events Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating community through celebration. We bring people together through free and low-cost public events that make Fergus Falls a great place to live, work, and visit.

Our Story

The Events Council formed after the Downtown Riverfront Council dissolved. It gives Fergus Falls’ community events a stable nonprofit home for the long term. Our signature event is Over the River, the city’s holiday celebration, held each December. It features a tree lighting, carriage rides, fireworks, visits with Santa, and hands-on arts activities for all ages.

Our events are volunteer-run and paid for by local sponsors and donors, which keeps them free and open to everyone.

Have an Idea for an Event?

We want to hear from you. If you have an idea for a new community event, reach out. For promising ideas, the Events Council can:

• Form a subcommittee dedicated to planning your event

• Help recruit and coordinate volunteers

• Provide organizational support as the event takes shape

You don’t need to have it all figured out. Bring the idea, and we’ll help build the team around it.

Fiscal Hosting

The Events Council is also open to serving as a fiscal host for community events. If your event or group is seeking grant funding, or wants to fundraise with the benefit of 501(c)(3) status, we may be able to help. Fiscal hosting lets donors make tax-deductible gifts and lets your project apply for grants that require nonprofit status, without having to form a nonprofit of your own.
